The June edition of the Wiederblick Film Club screening series features contemporary short films from the Philippines that explore everyday struggle, urban precarity, labour, memory and resilience. The proposal to show these films is brought from students of geography at the MLU. During a field trip in Manila the students came in touch with the short films as they visited a cultural event at the Harong, a community space in Quezon City which is dedicated to be an inclusive place for queer culture. The selected films reflect how state-shaped systems of inequality influence daily life — and how people continue to resist, adapt and care for one another. From power outages and city infrastructures to corruption and conflicts the films work as windows to lifes on the Philippines, as well as Filipin@ lifes abroad.
