The SLEEK-WP research project at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) investigates how geothermal collectors can be used as an additional heat source for dual-source heat pumps. The Applied Geology Group supports the project with its expertise in fiber-optic temperature sensing (Distributed Temperature Sensing, DTS).

For this purpose, DTS cables were installed at a demonstration site to monitor the geothermal collectors. The fiber-optic measurement technology enables continuous, spatially highly resolved temperature monitoring along the installed cables. This allows thermal changes within the collector field to be captured in detail and the system’s behavior under real operating conditions to be investigated.

Our group will also contribute to the project during its further course by collecting DTS measurement data and making it available for scientific analysis. The data will help improve the understanding of thermal processes within the geothermal collector and support the development of efficient operating strategies for the overall system.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with THI and the project partners and to the insights gained from the operation of the demonstration site.
