A seminar entitled “Droughtmap-ASB: An online digital tool for drought and water diplomacy in Central Asia” was successfully held on 27 May 2025 at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanisation Engineers (TIIAME) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The seminar was led by Dr Muhammad Usman and Matthias Völkel from the Department of Geoecology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), who presented the key features and applications of the Droughtmap ASB platform. The tool supports real-time drought monitoring, spatial data visualisation and informed decision-making to promote regional water cooperation and climate resilience in Central Asia.
The event was organised as part of the Green Central Asia Phase II Initiative, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and coordinated by GIZ Uzbekistan.
The seminar was officially opened by Prof Dr Abdulkhakim Salokhiddinov, Vice-Rector of TIIAME, who welcomed the speakers and expressed his great interest in future cooperation with MLU and the Green Central Asia Initiative. The event brought together faculty, students and experts for an engaging dialogue on the integration of digital tools in water diplomacy and environmental management.
This event was another step towards building scientific partnerships and capacity development across Central Asia.
