A delegation from Germany visited the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on March 28, 2026, for an official meeting. The German side included Dr. Peter Liebelt, Head of the Central Asian Sustainable Innovation Bureau; Dr. Moritz Koza, Coordinator of the EU for Green Turkmenistan project; Dr. Muhammad Usman and Matthias Völkel, both from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Representing the Institute were Vice-Rector Dr. G. Dovletov, Dean Dr. M. Berdiniyazov, Acting Department Head Dr. M. Atajanova, and language instructor Dr. M. Gerwin.
The two sides introduced their institutions and explored potential avenues for collaboration. The German representatives shared a strong interest in building scientific and educational ties with the Institute specialists and launching joint initiatives. Discussions focused on sustainable development, emerging technologies, and raising the level of academic cooperation between higher education institutions. Both sides expressed optimism that the proposed efforts would be carried out successfully to the benefit of both countries.
Later, the visitors were introduced to the work of the “Culture of Peace” UNESCO Club based at the Institute. They also held an interactive session with students, who took part in a question-and-answer exchange on various topics of interest.
This meeting marks an important step toward deepening the friendly relationship between Turkmenistan and Germany in science, education, and environmental diplomacy.
