The vertical tube furnace, custom-made by Carbolite, has two heating zones in which a maximum working temperature of 1600°C can be reached. Using temperature controllers 2416 and 2132 (Eurotherm), 4 programmes of 16 segments each can be created to regulate the temperature regime. A gas flow system is installed in the sample chamber (corundum tube with a diameter of 47 mm and a heated length of 700 mm), which enables temperature treatments under a defined gas atmosphere. Flow rates of H2 (2 - 46 l/min) and N2 (2 - 27 l/min) can be regulated via a Carbolite gas flow controller. In addition, the acid content can be controlled by means of an "atmosphere controller" 2404f (Eurotherm). For the horizontal 1-zone tube furnace from Ströhlein Instruments (furnace: CTF 12/75, Carbolite; controller: 808, Eurotherm), a gas flow system can also be installed in the sample chamber (corundum tube with an inner diameter of 75 mm, length 750 mm). The process temperatures can be regulated by means of 4 programme segments and reach approx. 1000 °C.
