Research

Project: DiP-SMART Agroforst

  • Ecologically required minimum proportion of woody plants in rural areas
  • Dynamic woodland management and field woodland planning
  • Development of a “field woodland inventory book” as a basis for the systematic inventory and evaluation of existing field woodlands in a municipality

 

Biography

  • Studied physical geography, botany, and soil science at the University of Leipzig
  • 1969–1983: Employee at the Institute for Landscape Research and Nature Conservation at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR in Halle
  • 1970: Doctorate at MLU Halle with the thesis: “Sediment and soil in the loess hill country with special consideration of the black earth areas”
  • 1983 Dr. sc. nat. and Fac. docendi (recognized as habilitation) with the thesis “Numerical taxonomy of the loess hill country for planning and protection”
  • 1983 Appointed lecturer at the Institute of Geography at MLU Halle
  • 1990 Appointed to the Chair of Physical Geography
  • 1992 Landscape conservation support and implementation planning for the German Unity transport projects. Participation in the UVPG.
  • 2025 Contribution to the feasibility study “Energy-self-sufficient Allstedt” with analysis of cultural landscape aspects such as field copses, agroforestry, and short rotation plantations for local energy supply
