Cilento National Park, August 2024. At the end of the dry season in August, Léonard El-Hokayem and David Emanuel Schulz are once again on a field campaign in the Cilento National Park as part of the GM-GDE project. Together with Prof Pantaleone De Vita from the University of Naples, they are investigating the relationship between groundwater-soil-plant in groundwater-dependent and independent ecosystems.
To this end, they are measuring the daily variation in leaf transpiration of various species along river courses and in the maquis. In order to gain initial insights into the annual course of soil moisture in groundwater-dependent and independent oak vegetation, soil moisture loggers were also installed at four locations down to a depth of 1 metre and piezometers down to a depth of 7 metres. We are looking forward to analysing the data and to continuing our successful cooperation with the University of Naples.
