Institute Equality

Equal Opportunities Officer: Welcome to the website of the Equal Opportunities Officer of the Institute of Geosciences and Geography

We are delighted that you have found your way to us. Our job as equal opportunities officers is to create a fair and respectful working environment in which every individual, regardless of gender, origin, physical disabilities, or other personal characteristics, has the same opportunities to develop. We are actively committed to promoting equal opportunities and creating an inclusive culture at our institute.

Whether you are looking for advice on career challenges, need support in balancing family and work, or would like to find out about our services for people with physical disabilities – we are here for you! Together with our team, we work to promote a diverse and non-discriminatory atmosphere in which all members of the institute are valued and supported.

Feel free to take a look around and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are committed to a strong, inclusive, and sustainable institute where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of the personal challenges they face.

Counseling

We are available to all members of the faculty as confidential contact persons – whether students, doctoral candidates, academic or non-academic staff. Topics can include gender equality issues, experiences of discrimination, work-life balance, or personal concerns in the work environment. Counseling is confidential, independent, and anonymous upon request.

Support for recruitment

The equal opportunities officers actively support appointment procedures and recruitment to ensure fair, transparent, and equal opportunity selection processes. We incorporate gender equality aspects into the selection processes and pay particular attention to gender-equitable job advertisements and a balanced composition of the selection committees.

Family-friendly structures at the faculty

For us, a family-friendly faculty means reliable framework conditions, flexible solutions, and a culture of mutual consideration. We are committed to measures that improve the compatibility of studies, career, and family responsibilities – e.g., through parent-child rooms, information services, support in the event of childcare bottlenecks, or targeted support programs for female scientists with family responsibilities.
