Institute About Us

Self-presentation: Research and teaching

The University of Halle concentrates its natural sciences on the extensive Heide Campus. Since 2003, the site has also been home to the Institute of Geosciences and Geography. Following the renovation of the buildings of the former air force and army school for the GEO departments, the Geological Garden was opened in spring 2004 as a special highlight on the campus. It is considered one of the largest and most beautiful geological gardens at German universities and is freely accessible all year round. Numerous exhibits, display boards and research results are exhibited within the two institute buildings, so that just walking through the corridors and staircases leaves a lasting impression of the exciting topics of geosciences and geography. Our institute stands for a modern research landscape, diverse study programmes and a liveable environment directly on the Saale – science and people in constant flux.
