Earth Science Olympiad – 2nd round

Post: News / Study Program / Various : Earth Science Olympiad – 2nd round

By Prof. Dr. C. Stephan-Scherb

On 28 January 2026, the Institute of Geosciences and Geography at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg hosted the second round of the Geosciences Olympiad. This round took place nationwide at natural history museums and universities. After a welcome on campus by PD Dr. Ralf Halama, Prof. Dr. Michael Stipp and Prof. Dr. Christiane Stephan-Scherb, the central competition test was written. This was followed by an opportunity for exchange during a joint lunch break and a subsequent guided tour of the geogarden. A short tutorial on rock identification was also given.
Many thanks to DVGeo – the umbrella organisation for geosciences – for the initiative! We are keeping our fingers crossed for all participants in the ongoing competition and look forward to continuing to inspire interested school students in the geosciences in the future.
