Post: International / Project / Workshop : Regional Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management in Tashkent (Uzbekistan)

The focus of the workshop (14–16 April 2026) was the development and evaluation of a climate- and gender-sensitive certification course on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) for Central Asian river basin organizations. The working groups Geoecology, led by Prof. Dr. Christopher Conrad, and Geography Education, led by Prof. Dr. Anne-Kathrin Lindau at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, organized the event in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). They brought together representatives from universities in Central Asia and Germany, as well as experts from GIZ, the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in order to evaluate and further develop the draft certification course, which consists of text materials and a handbook.

Following this, the German delegation traveled on to the partner university, Urgench State University, and visited the team of Dr. Murodjon Sultanov. There, we became familiar with the geoecological laboratory, visited water distribution systems and experimental fields in the region, and discussed future projects and cooperation.
