Regional kick-off for the FONA project “KoReGio100” in Kiel

Post: News / Workshop : Regional kick-off for the FONA project “KoReGio100” in Kiel

Kiel, 21 May 2026 – The transdisciplinary research project “KoReGio100” has successfully entered the next phase. Following the official start of the scientific consortium’s work on 17 March 2026, the regional kick-off event took place in Kiel on 21 May 2026. The focus was on networking with the practical partners from Schleswig-Holstein’s “Clean Energy Valley”.

The Clean Energy Valley is considered a pioneering region for the development of a future-oriented industrial location based on renewable energies. The economic crises of recent years have clearly shown how vulnerable locations can be due to their dependence on fossil fuels. The “KoReGio100” project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), combines the expertise of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Geoecology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) to investigate the social and ecological impacts of energy transition landscapes.

The next interim goal is for the Department of Geoecology to determine the theoretical supply of ecosystem services and the corresponding demand in the project area. This is being done with the help of modern software solutions and by combining geographical, climatic and demographic data with the findings from the regional kick-off workshop. Accompanied by further stakeholder discussions, the results will serve as a sound decision-making aid to determine the focus for the planned real-world laboratory and create the basis for more detailed modelling.
