Although the innovative DAS technology for dewatering and hydraulically controlling groundwater through air sparging is theoretically promising, it has not yet been tested in practice. To enable the practical application of DAS technology in the future, the fundamental mechanisms of multiphase flow (air and water) in DAS must be understood, and at the same time, DAS must be experimentally validated through laboratory and field experiments. These experiments will be supplemented by physical and AI-supported numerical modeling, as well as by the development of a new geophysical imaging technique for detecting air in the subsurface. Finally, the findings from the project will be used to develop a practical handbook on DAS.
