The construction of the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) provides a unique opportunity to re-examine the tectonic development of this part of the Eastern Alps along the BBT transects.
The samples from the associated exploratory boreholes allow us to link the available rocks and their properties directly with the seismic information from nearby profiles. In co-operation with the Leibniz Institute for Geophysics Hannover and the University of Hannover, new tectonic profiles will be generated in 2D and 3D. The project is part of the SSP 4DMountainbuilding.
