Geodynamics Research Geodynamic development of the Pyrenees

Geodynamic development of the Pyrenees: Geodynamic evolution of the NE Gondwana margin in the Pyrenees: temporalities of granitoid emplacement and their geochemical and structural signatures

The aim of the project is to develop a model for the development of the (proto-)Pyrenean lakes based on the genesis of granitoids in the course of Variscan mountain building in the axial zone of the Pyrenees. This needs to be integrated into the regional development of the shelf area of Gondwana during the Variscan orogeny. In the context of the current discussions and reinterpretation of regional conditions during Variscan mountain building, considerable discrepancies have arisen, particularly in the Pyrenees. Thus, the application of the usual “simple” models such as magma formation exclusively in connection with subduction zones or through gravitational collapse of the orogen is questionable and must be reworked and reinterpreted
