RENATURE (RENATUR)

Project: RENATURE completed ·

Peri-urban landscapes are located in the outer areas of cities, often outside their administrative boundaries. Built-up areas such as new development areas, leisure and commercial areas, municipal infrastructure and open spaces close to the city such as green spaces, fallow land or agricultural land can be found here.

Due to increasing urbanisation and investment, open spaces close to the city are decreasing. With the decline, the natural heritage of these open spaces, their biodiversity and recreational services are being lost.

The aim of the RENATUR-project was to draw attention to the importance of open spaces in the urban-rural transition zone in order to preserve them. To this end, model regions were selected that have a great interest in promoting and protecting the natural heritage of open spaces close to urban centres in planning practice.
