01.07.2022 | Offers from the Department of Applied Geology at the “Long Night of Science” very well attended.
At this year’s Long Night of Science – after a two-year break – our department was very well represented and well attended: Maximilian Noethen and Jona Cochanski carried out measurements of groundwater levels, on-site hydrochemistry parameters and geothermal energy together with the visitors in the Institute’s courtyard.
Yuri Buchanchenko cracked hard rocks with André Eschenröder (Geodynamics department) and Christian Söllig explained the engineering geological explorations to many interested “house builders” before the start of construction. We then shared the first floor with Geodynamics, where we presented the diverse investigations in the Egyptian desert, and the visitors were also amazed by the variety of groundwater biology and chemistry.
At the end of the corridor, Benedykt Pasek and Christoph Kicinski explained geological models of Halle’s subsurface and landslide modelling. Finally, there was a presentation by Wolfgang Gossel on the utilisation of hybrid solar energy modules coupled with geothermal energy. All the events were very popular with visitors, with over 1,000 people attending the 7-hour event.
