From 30 June to 2 July 2026, the summer school took place in Bochum as part of the EU Horizon project PUSH-IT. The event was hosted by Fraunhofer IEG, which offered participants a varied programme comprising specialist lectures, interactive exercises, field trips and numerous opportunities for professional exchange. The focus was on underground thermal energy storage systems (UTES), their geological principles, system design, societal aspects and current research and development issues. The programme was complemented by practical case studies and excursions to the MTES site and the German Mining Museum in Bochum, which provided insights into the future and history of underground energy technologies.
