Institute of Geosciences and Geography, Uni-Halle (MLU)

Our institute conducts research into the Earth’s dynamic processes, ranging from the development of landscapes to global environmental change. Through interdisciplinary teaching and innovative research, we combine earth sciences and geography to gain a better understanding of the world.
Degree course

We offer a wide range of geoscience degree programmes that provide an ideal balance between theory and practice. Students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, excellent teaching staff and a research-oriented education.
Events

Our institute organises a series of lectures throughout the year, which are open to anyone interested. The dates of our Geo-Colloquia are announced in the news feed.
Geological Garden

The Geological Garden in our courtyard is regarded as one of the most beautiful gardens in Germany. You can explore it at your own pace or take part in guided tours during the Long Night of Science.
Laboratories and equipment

The rock press is a real crowd-puller! But it’s just one of many fascinating pieces of equipment in our modern laboratories. We regularly give school classes a glimpse behind the scenes during Future Day, and offer the same to interested members of the public at public events.
International

Research projects and collaborations with institutions from all over the world characterise our international activities. As a result of our long-standing tradition of cooperation with the Central Asian region, the University’s only overseas representative office was established in Kazakhstan in 2019.
Well worth a visit at any time of year: the institute’s buildings are situated on the spacious Heide-Süd campus, right next to the Heide and Peißnitz. Here, our guests can enjoy peace and quiet amidst the wide open spaces of this beautiful town on the River Saale.
