Mechanical testing: Determination of the spec. surface according to BLAINE

The air permeability method according to Blaine is a standardised test method in accordance with DIN EN 196 - for determining the grinding fineness of cements. The method determines the time required for a certain amount of air to flow through a powder bed with a defined volume and porosity. The number and size of the pores in the powder bed are defined by the particle size distribution of the particles. These in turn determine the time required for the air to pass through.
